Ooh Jimmy Jimmy, Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Greenhoff.
Two chants that used to ring out from the Boothen End of the Victoria ground on most Saturdays in the early 70's. He is my all time favourite Stoke City player and I haven't seen anyone that could volley a ball as sweet as he did.
This design is a little self indulgent as it also features Jimmy wearing my favourite ever Stoke away kit and made me realise why my lucky is 8.
Jimmy was born in Barnsley and played for Leeds United and Birmingham City before joining the Potters in 1969 under Tony Waddington. A True legend who played his part in city's finest hour - The 1972 League Cup win.
Listening to Jimmy tell his story about how he never wanted to leave Stoke City had me trying to hide the tears at the SCOBA event in 2009. The roof had blown off the Butler Street Stand and Stoke needed to raise money quickly. Jimmy appealed to the directors not to sell him to Man Utd. but they insisted he had to go, causing Jimmy to break into tears!
He went on to win the FA Cup with Man U but never got to appear in the full England team, one of the greatest players never to play for his country, what a travesty. He also played for Crewe and Port Fail but even that doesn't stop him being my favourite ever Stoke City player.
